MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING WITH COMPASSION AND INTENTION
A Better Tomorrow Starts Now
Therapy that puts your healing first.
Building a collaborative therapeutic relationship with my clients is important to me. Creating an environment of trust and where you feel safe is a priority. I seek to understand how you arrived at the place you are and look to see what is working for you and what is not. Together we uncover your strengths and resources and learn how to tune in to your inner wise self. We discover the available options for the areas that you would like to change and create an action plan. You can live a balanced and fulfilling life by doing something new.
During our sessions you can expect compassion, supportive nudges, and empowering conversations. I use a combination of methods that include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), the most common approach to psychotherapy, works with our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. CBT states that these are all connected — by changing the way we think and behave, we can change how we feel. This puts us in control of ourselves and the aim is to decrease unhealthy behaviors and increase adaptive or healthy ones.
Internal Family Systems
Internal Family Systems (IFS), works on healing wounds by building a relationship with our inner sub-personalities or parts that have unique roles in our lives. They carry important information from our past and play a part in how we behave and feel. The goals is to achieve balance and harmony with the internal system and to have our most mature self be in the leadership position and be the decision maker of our lives.
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy approach designed to work with distressing or traumatic memories that are unprocessed in our memory network. These can cause panic attacks, anxiety, stress, grief, PTSD or social anxiety. Memories are processed by using bilateral eye movements, sounds, or tapping. Research has shown that EMDR therapy has long lasting effects.
Hello, I’m GeeGee.
Geraldine Gomez, LMHC
Certified EMDR Therapist
I was born and raised in Santiago, Chile. I have called Central Florida my home since 1996, where I now live with my husband, son, step-daughter, and fur baby. In my free time, I like to spend time with friends and family, listen to music, catch up on my favorite shows, listen to podcasts & audiobooks and go on date nights with my husband.
I attended the University of Central Florida for both undergraduate and graduate school. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling. I am a certified EMDR Therapist and continue my learning by reading and attending workshops & training sessions.
I have a passion for teaching people how to have healthy relationships, tune into their feelings, become aware of their patterns, choose new behaviors to try out, and build on their strengths. One of my favorite things about being a counselor is watching my clients transform into their power and the confidence that radiates from within after having healing moments.
